Description

With this uphill of 900 meters of altitude, our descent-oriented routes can be extended arbitrarily to a conditioning cross-country round.

Numerous descent-oriented routes start in Leukerbad and end in the Rhone valley. This low-traffic ascent option is suitable for those riders who want to do without the bus shuttle and get from Leuk to Leukerbad under their own muscle power (or motor). It leads over Leuk town, St. Barbara, and via Albinen to Leukerbad.

Difficult sections

Gravel or packed earth. The path has no particular difficulties and mostly consists of forest and meadow paths. Wide curves, easy to moderate slope. No special skills are needed to ride this.

Susten/Leuk

The ascent starts at Susten train station and leads through the charming town of Leuk high up into the Dala valley. After a short, steep gravel road, you reach the main road at St. Barbara. After a few hundred meters, a narrow side road branches off to the right to the hamlet of Tschingeren and climbs with a pleasant gradient up to the rustic mountain village of Albinen. From here, you follow the main road high above the Dala valley to the Flaschen / Albinenleitern junction and on to Leukerbad. Attention: slow down after the tunnel and climb a few meters here onto the hiking/nature trail. It leads at a constant height to the valley station of the Torrent aerial cableway and directly into the village center.

Other ascent variants are also recommended: instead of crossing the main road in Leuk town, follow it left to Varen. A high bridge leads over the impressive Dalas gorge to the charming wine village of Varen. A side road branches off here to the right to Inden. Carved into the steep rock face, it runs above the gorge to Rumeling. What a magnificent view down! From Rumeling, the best is to pedal up the main road to Inden and take the "Larschi Rundi" route to Leukerbad.
