Description

Explore the Bisse des Sarrasins which connects Pinsec and Vercorin. Built nearly 500 years ago, it presents real historical, technical and tourist ...
The legend tells that the bisse would have been built by the Saracens (Muslims to Westerners in the Middle Ages) who would have climbed the Alpine valleys in the 10th century and to whom the Valaisans owe their irrigation know-how. Did the Saracens really build this bisse which bears their name? The mystery remains! However, the remains on the path of the Bisse des Sarrasins reveal the likely existence of an ancient 10 km long bisse, from Pinsec to the Briey plateau, which took its source from the Pinsec torrent. Today, the construction of the bisse is estimated to date back to the 14th century. The Bisse des Sarrasins path now leads from Pinsec to Vercorin with a central fork to Fang. The Bisse des Sarrasins is a "dry" bisse. Two educational trails can be followed along the route. An educational trail from Chalais to the Chalets will accompany you to the Voualans and the second follows the Bisse des Sarrasins to Pinsec.
