HIKING TRAIL NO. 7: WOMEN’S QUOTES TRAIL In close collaboration with the Cantonal Office for Gender Equality and Family and the Valais Cantonal Archives, Unterbäch Tourism revamped the Women’s Quotes Trail in 2026. Quotes from famous women from Valais now punctuate this enjoyable hike from Brandalp to Unterbäch. The first quote is located directly across from the Alpenrösli restaurant, at the top station of the chairlift leading from Unterbäch. The trail is separately marked with purple signs and initially follows the Brandalp road for a few minutes before branching off onto a nature trail at the curve above Ta. Along the hike, you’ll encounter 15 signs featuring quotes from well-known women such as Iris von Roten, Camille Rast, and Germaine Seewer. The words are meant to inspire reflection while hiking. The trail also serves as a reminder that women in Unterbäch—the “Rütli of Swiss women”—were allowed to vote 14 years before women officially gained the right to vote. The trail is on easy and safe terrain but still covers an elevation gain of about 450 meters. Therefore, we recommend hiking boots and, if needed, hiking poles. If you prefer an uphill hike, you can also start the well-marked trail at the village square in Unterbäch. In winter, this popular trail is accessible on snowshoes (Brandalp Trail).
