From the Britannia Hut, the path leads down the slope behind the hut in a southerly direction towards the Hohlaub Glacier and the Allal Glacier. The markings are clearly visible and provide a safe route across both glaciers and the scree slope between them. The crevasses on both glaciers are clearly visible and easy to cross.
At the end of the Allalin Glacier, you ascend over snow and scree on the side of the Schwarzberg to the Schwarzbergchopf. The Schwarzbergchopf is a good resting place with a magnificent view of the Mattmark reservoir. From here, the path is marked red-white and well visible. Some sections are exposed and steep. From the Schwarzbergalp, a mountain road leads down to the Mattmark reservoir.
The Glacier Trail is the only alpine hiking trail in the Saas Valley that leads over two glaciers.
**Note:**
Users of alpine hiking trails must be sure-footed, free from dizziness, in very good physical condition, and able to handle rope and ice axe. They must also be able to overcome climbing sections using their hands and be familiar with mountain hazards.
Transport
The Saas Valley is easily and comfortably accessible by car from all directions, whether from Switzerland or abroad. From the north, you reach us via Bern through the Lötschberg car shuttle. From the east, you come via the Furka Pass or the Furka car shuttle. From the south, we are accessible via the Simplon Pass or the Simplon car shuttle, and from the west, you drive via Lausanne along the Rhône Valley to Visp and from there towards Saas-Fee. From Visp, you drive south towards Saas-Fee. At the "Killerhof" roundabout near Stalden, take the second exit to Saas-Fee. In Saas-Grund, turn right towards Saas-Fee after the church.
