Visit the Britannia Hut via the impressive route over the Heidenfriedhof from Saas-Almagell!
From Dorfplatz in Saas-Almagell, the route leads via Webstube southwards initially to the chapel "Zer Meiggeru" and past the compensation basin of the Mattmark power plant. The field path on the right of the bridge leads to the alpine meadow and zigzags up to the rock face.
Individual stairs make the ascent through the "Tschingle" easier. The steep and strenuous climb is rewarded with a unique view.
Upon reaching the Heidenfridhof, the path branches off to the left and in the distance you can already see the Britannia Hut. A few minutes after the fork, you reach the edge of the Chessjen plateau, which is the more pleasant part of the hike.
Upon arrival at the Britannia Hut (3,030 m above sea level), you can enjoy an unforgettable view over the Allalin glacier, the Mattmark area, and the eponymous natural dam.
From the Britannia Hut, you can descend over the Eginnerjoch to the Morenia station, from where the gondola goes to Saas-Fee.
**Note:**
Users of alpine hiking trails must be sure-footed, free from dizziness, and in very good physical condition, as well as skilled in the use of rope and ice axe. They must also be able to overcome climbing sections using their hands and be aware of the dangers in the mountains.
