Description
High moor Chaltenbrunnen - to the highest moor in Europe.
The hike begins with a ride by postbus to the Chaltenbrunnen restaurant. Initially, it steeply climbs to the Chaltenbrunnen Alp over blooming alpine meadows. Afterwards, the plateau of the colorful high moor is reached. An overwhelming view of the surrounding mountains rewards the effort. After crossing the high moor, the route continues to Wandelalp. The return to Meiringen goes via middle Wandelalp, Isetwald, over Falchern to Willigen.
Transport
By car, various access options are available. From Basel and Geneva, the fastest route is via Bern. From Zurich, traveling via Lucerne and the Brünig Pass is the quickest. The pass is open in summer and winter.
From the south, access to the region is via Grimsel or Susten Pass. Both passes are only open in summer. An alternative is the Simplon Pass followed by the Lötschberg car shuttle.
