Description
The historic Kapellenweg passes by 15 wayside chapel-like shrines on a beautiful hiking route from Saas-Grund to Saas-Fee.
The Kapellenweg to Saas-Fee shows in total 15 wayside chapels (built 1708 - 1711) the secrets of the Psalter, i.e., the three rosaries: the joyful, the sorrowful, and the glorious rosary. On this beautiful path between Saas-Grund and Saas-Fee, Carl Zuckmayer also hiked to Saas-Fee for the first time and, after his arrival, could no longer part from Saas-Fee and its majestic panorama.
The path leads from Saas-Grund towards Saas-Almagell along the Saaser Vispa river to the campsite Kapellenweg, where shortly before the impressive Fee Gorge it branches off towards Saas-Fee. Along the path, you repeatedly find charming chapels with pictures from the life of Jesus Christ and breathtaking views in and around the Fee Gorge. The centerpiece of the hike is the chapel of grace "Zur Hohen Stiege", built in 1747. The path ends at the wellnessHostel4000 in Saas-Fee.
Transport
The Saastal is easily and conveniently accessible by car from all directions, whether from Switzerland or abroad. From the north, you reach us via Bern through the Lötschberg car ferry. From the east, you come via Furka Pass or the Furka car ferry. From the south, we are accessible via Simplon Pass or Simplon car ferry, and from the west you drive via Lausanne along the Rhône Valley to Visp and from there towards Saas-Fee. From Visp, drive south towards Saas-Fee. At the "Killerhof" roundabout towards Stalden, take the second exit to Saas-Fee. In Saas-Grund, turn left after the church towards Saas-Almagell until you reach the campsite at Kapellenweg.
