Description

Rewarding hike from Kippel to the Bietschhorn hut.
From the PostAuto stop, you pass through the old village and descend to the Lonza bridge. After the bridge, you go up through the Niderwald forest on a forestry road until the hut path branches off. You climb relatively steeply through the forest. You gradually leave the tree line and ascend on a quite steep path over a scree field. Then the traverse begins east towards Howitzgrat, which you reach at point 2415 m on a nice grassy terrace. From here you have an almost complete view of the entire Lötschental. Then continue along the west flank of the Howitzgrat over a few short rock steps secured with chains and fixed ropes. Finally, climb up over an old moraine to the hut. Here you are rewarded with a magnificent view for the strenuous climb: Breithorn, Tschingelhorn, Petersgrat, Hockenhorn, Balmhorn, Torrenthorn, and even the western corner of the Mont Blanc area can be spotted. And of course, the Bietschhorn is within reach. In the rustic Bietschhorn hut, you can refresh yourself with food and drink before the descent. Of course, you can also stay overnight here.

Transport
