The circuit around the Mattmark reservoir is a popular circular hike with a high alpine atmosphere. The path is also a welcomed change for joggers ...
The hike begins directly at the Restaurant Mattmark at the dam wall. First, the hiker goes through the pedestrian tunnel on the right side of the lake.
At the end of the reservoir is the Dischtelalp, from where the Monte Rosa route continues over the Monte Moro Pass (golden Madonna) towards Macugnaga. From Dischtelalp, the circular path follows a narrower trail on the left side of the lake back to the dam.
The reservoir, which was inaugurated in 1969, hides some historical stories and dramatic legends beneath its waters. These can be explored in the exhibition at the restaurant.
