The Old Chamois Trail starts at the Hannig mountain station and initially heads southwest. Shortly after starting, one diverges from the main path and follows the trail to Torrentbach, which continues towards Spissen. Take the lower path to Trift at a fork, which leads down in steep switchbacks to the next junction. There, keep right and follow Trail No. 10, which passes over the Gand moraine to the idyllic glacier lake, where you can feel the impressive effects of the glaciers. The path continues to the restaurant Gletschergrotte and further to the Sperwer breeding area. Soon, you reach the riverbed and walk along the waterfall of the Fee-Vispa, passing by Oberi Schopfen to Gallenalp. From there, a challenging ascent leads to the Berghaus Plattjen, the oldest mountain hut in the Saas Valley. From there, Plattjen can be reached in about half an hour. As the name "Old Chamois Trail" suggests, the protective forest around Plattjen is a preferred habitat for chamois, and the chances of seeing these animals here are exceptionally high.
