The Pfyfoltruweg is a lovingly designed circular hiking trail around the winegrower village of Varen. Over about 3.6 km, it clearly conveys the ...
The Pfyfoltruweg starts in the center of Varen and leads on a scenic loop through vineyards, dry meadows, and light forests around the village. Information boards along the route explain how original care of the cultural landscape and targeted greening measures promote the habitat of butterflies, beetles, and other beneficial insects.
These insects support the winemakers in natural pest control – a key element of nature-friendly viticulture according to IP guidelines, as practiced by many local wineries in Varen.
The path partly runs along an old water pipeline, offers beautiful views of the Rhone valley, and invites you to rest at a picnic spot along the way. At the end of the route, a glass of Varner Pfyfoltru wine is worthwhile, for example at the restaurant Grotte or in one of the nearby wine cellars.
