Tour du Grand Chavalard

Starting from Jorasse, take the path that leads to the Petit Pré mountain pasture (1,998 m). The path climbs smoothly to a pleasant grassy valley, the Grand Pré d'Euloi. The trail takes you across pastures and scree until you reach the Fenestral. At the pass, the view looks over the South-West and the impressive massif of the Mont Blanc. To the North-East, the Muverans, the age-old guardians of Ovronnaz, seem to welcome you. The trail leads to the shores of Lake Fully, then on to the mountain pastures, and then the colony and the hut at Sorgno. A limestone stronghold and the realm of the ibex and the bearded vulture, the Chavalard rises like a sentry, standing guard over this beautiful basin. After a brief glimpse of the lower lake of Sorgno, the route then follows the southern slope of the Grand Chavalard. This unique balcony, overlooking the plain of the Rhône, cuts a wide passage between steep slopes, alpine meadows and rock walls. The last stretch runs along the East face of the Grand Chavalard, above the avalanche-prone corridor of the Etra. Recessed between the Grand'Garde-La Seya ridge and the Chavalard, the trail leads back to the Lui d'Août and Petit Pré pastures. Head back along the path toward the Tour to return to Jorasse and then Ovronnaz.
