Description

The via ferrata on the Mittaghorn offers an easy but scenic route that is also suitable for beginners. However, the length of the route should not ...
Via ferrata enthusiasts can climb an impressive three-thousander and after the strenuous ascent of the Mittaghorn enjoy the breathtaking panorama around the Saas Valley with its four-thousanders at leisure. The route starts at the mountain station of the first section of the Alpin Express on Morenia and leads northeast to the west ridge of the Mittaghorn. After 1.5 hours of walking to the start you reach the via ferrata, which leads over the ridge to the summit (about 2 hours). From the summit cross a steep and rocky path leads eastwards over the Wandflüe to the Plattjen mountain station and further down to Saas-Fee. It should be noted that despite the easy rating this is a full-day route, so enough time must be planned. The route should only be undertaken in safe weather conditions. In early summer, snowfields may still appear on the descent. The route can also be done as a circular hike from the Britannia hut.
