Description

The Wolf Trail links the two villages of Eischoll and Ergisch and owes its name to an event in the 1950s: in 1946, the last Valais wolf to date was shot between these villages. The walk starts at the village square in Eischoll. The marked trail leads westwards between houses and gardens, past typical Valais barns, over an idyllic stream and through lush mountain flora. Via Habere and Ried, you reach Tännholz. Here, by the small chapel, you’ll find a comfortable rest area with an information board about the wolf and its trail. The route continues along a wide forest path to the flower-filled Alpe Ifil. From Ifil, the path narrows. Through unspoilt woodland, the route climbs up to the Wolfsläger rest area. Following an old water channel (no longer in use), past wild and romantic rocky outcrops, you cross the Tännbach. At Golantschu, you cross the road to Obermatten and reach the village of Ergisch via a beautiful woodland path.
