Mattmark - Monte Moro Trail
Description
The trail run leads on historic paths from Saas-Almagell over the Mattmark dam to the Italian-Swiss border, the Monte Moro Pass.
The trail starts in Saas-Almagell and follows the half marathon course through the larch forest over Zermeiggern and Eiualp up to the Mattmark dam. From the dam crest follows a flat, easy-to-run section along the reservoir. At the end of the reservoir, at Dischtelalp, the ascent begins via the historic pass crossing to the Monte Moro Pass with the impressive golden statue of Mary. The pass is also the highest point of the trail run and marks the border to Italy. From the pass, you descend back to the valley floor the same way. At the crossroads, this time cross the stream and follow the mountainside into the almost untouched Ofutal. From Ofutal, descend to the Mattmark dam and return along the same way to Saas-Almagell.
Mountain hiking trail - may contain chain-secured and exposed sections. The path is not always visible. Sometimes you need your hands for balance. Sure-footedness and average orientation skills are required.
